Fragment of Roman tegula with the imprint of the heel of a Legionary sandal or hobnail shoe.

Size± 168 x 128 x 27,3 mm

Condition: fragment, signs of wear consistent with age and use.

Roman tiles with imprints are not uncommon as they were left to dry outdoors before firing, allowing animals and people to step on them. Human footprints could be a method to quickly check if the clay had sufficiently hardened.
