Very rare Byzantine Medieval bronze bell with the incised inscription ΓABPIEΛ which is translated as the Archangel Gabriel. The bell has a handgrip with hole for suspension.

Diameter: ± 57 mm
Height: ± 45,7 mm

Good and solid condition, very appealing olive-brown patina with spots of cuprite. Some wear consistent with age and use; one visible pressure line, as usual the iron clapper is no longer present.

Gabriel is known as a messenger of God and is often associated with the Annunciation, where he delivers the news to the Virgin Mary that she will conceive Jesus Christ. In Byzantine times, Gabriel was venerated as one of the principal angels and was often depicted in iconography and religious art.

His role as a divine messenger made him a symbol of communication between God and humanity. Additionally, Gabriel was believed to intercede on behalf of believers, offering protection and guidance.
